Same-day where we can

Monday to Friday. We confirm a time when you call.

Is it urgent?

Does this need an emergency electrician in Brisbane?

Some of these need a call right away. Others can wait for a normal booking. Not sure which? Call us and we will help you work it out.

No power to the whole house

First, check if it is just your place or the street. If it is only you, then it is usually a tripped main switch or a fault to find.

Burning smell from a power point or the switchboard

Turn off the power at the board if it is safe, then call us straight away. Also, do not leave this overnight.

Sparking or a switch that feels hot

Stop using it and stay clear, because a hot switch or visible sparking is a fire risk.

Safety switch will not reset

Do not keep forcing it back on. Instead, leave it off and call us to find what is tripping it.

Storm or water damage near wiring

Keep away from the switchboard and anything wet nearby until we have checked it. Call us before you touch it again.

Part of the house has no power

If the rest of the house is fine, it is not a street outage. Instead, something has tripped or failed on that circuit.

Right now

What to do right now

First, switch off the main at the board if it is safe to reach. Then unplug what was running, and stay clear of the switchboard and any water nearby.

Fallen power lines and real emergencies

If you see a fallen power line, stay well clear and call 000 straight away. The same also goes for fire, smoke or someone hurt. Those need emergency services first, then us.

What counts as urgent, and what can wait

No power to the house, a burning smell or a hot switch is urgent. A dead power point or one flickering light usually is not, so a normal booking works fine.

Outside business hours

We work Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we are upfront that this is not a round-the-clock service. So if there is fire, smoke or someone hurt outside those hours, call 000 first. Otherwise, leave a message or send the form, and we will pick it up when we are back on.

Safe to check yourself

  1. First, check if the neighbours still have power. If the street is out, then it is a supply issue.
  2. Then open the switchboard and see which switch dropped, a breaker or a safety switch.
  3. Unplug what was running on that circuit, then reset it once.
  4. If it trips again straight away, stop and call us instead.

Fire, smoke or someone hurt

Ring 000 first. Call M-Tech once everyone is safe and the fire brigade or ambulance has been.

Cost and quoting

What an emergency electrician call-out costs in Brisbane

We charge one diagnostic fee, confirmed with you on the phone before we head out. That fee covers the call-out and the time it takes to find the fault. We price any repair separately, and you approve it first.

1

One fee, confirmed before we head out

This fee covers the call-out and also the testing needed to find the cause. You hear the number on the phone, so nothing is a surprise at the door.

2

Your repair price, before we start

Once we know what is wrong, we explain the fix and the cost in plain terms. Nothing goes ahead until you say yes. If anything changes, we stop and talk to you first.

3

You choose how to proceed

Say yes and we usually finish the job in the same visit. Say no and you only pay for the diagnostic call, nothing more.

What happens when you call

Four steps, so you always know what's next

01

You call, we ask a few questions

Tell us what’s happening, when it started and what was running. Also, a photo of the switchboard helps.

02

We talk you through staying safe

If it’s safe, we’ll walk you through switching off the main or isolating one circuit by phone. That way you’re not near a hazard while you wait.

03

We attend and isolate the fault

Once we’re on site, we test the circuits and find exactly where the fault sits. Then we confirm the repair price before going further.

04

We repair it and test again

We fix the actual cause, not just the symptom, then re-test the circuit. You’ll know what went wrong before we leave.

Common emergency calls

Common urgent faults, and what we check

Most urgent calls fall into one of three categories. So here’s what we check for each one.

No power to the whole house

This is often the main switch, the incoming supply or a fault big enough to drop everything at once. We check whether the street has power, then test the switchboard.

What we check

  • Main switch and incoming supply connections
  • Safety switch trip testing across all circuits
  • Load checks when everything drops at once
  • Loose or damaged switchboard connections

Burning smell, sparking or a hot switch

A smell or sparking usually points to a loose connection, a failing power point or an overloaded switch. This carries real fire risk, so we treat it as urgent.

What we check

  • Heat and scorch marks at switches and power points
  • Loose or arcing connections behind the plate
  • Insulation resistance on the affected circuit
  • Switchboard terminals inspected and re-tightened

Storm or water damage to the switchboard

Water near electrical wiring isn’t something to test yourself, so leave that part to us. We isolate the board, then check for moisture before switching anything back on.

What we check

  • Moisture inside the switchboard and meter box
  • Insulation resistance after water exposure
  • Corrosion on terminals and connections
  • Whether it’s safe to re-energise the board

The short answer

What counts as an emergency electrician call-out in Brisbane?

An emergency call-out is one that cannot wait for a normal booking, because there is a safety risk or the whole house has lost power. Even so, we still test properly before any repair, so the fix lasts.

What changes the price of the fix

  • Whether the fault is constant or comes and goes
  • Access to the cable, such as roof space or a high ceiling
  • How many circuits the fault runs across
  • Parts needed, like a new breaker or cable

At a glance

  • What it is: a call-out for a safety issue or a total loss of power that can’t wait.
  • How it’s charged: one diagnostic fee confirmed on the phone, then a repair price you approve.
  • Timing: same-day where we can, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours, call 000 for fire, smoke or someone hurt.

Help us move faster

  • A photo of the switchboard, if it’s safe to take one
  • Which rooms or circuits have lost power
  • When it started and what was running at the time
